So what awareness can tarot provide me in relation to a reading and how it will be interpreted…

A reading containing Wands:

Wands represent the element fire – they typically denote the spring months. Wands represent the “fire of the soul”, the “divine spark”, primal energy, spirituality, inspiration, determination, strength, intuition, creativity, ambition, action, eagerness, impulsiveness. Wands will typically represent winning life’s battles, overcoming obstacles and moving ahead. They mirror what is important to you at the core of your being. They address what makes us tick.

A reading containing Swords:

Swords represent the element air – they typically denote the winter months. Swords are often referred to as the “sorrow” or “loss” cards. Swords represent our intellect, the cold sharpness of reason, the acceptance of truth, action, change, force, power, oppression, ambition, courage and conflict. They represent how action can be positive and/or negative. Swords represent struggle and animosity. In the tarot, swords depict people embattled or overloaded, seeking to overcome difficulties or enemies.

A reading containing Pentacles:

Pentacles represent the element earth – they typically denote the autumn months. Pentacles represent the material aspects of life including work, business, trade, property, money and other material possessions. They are commonly called the “money” cards. Pentacles deal with the physical aspect of our lives therefore relate to outer situations of your health, finances, work, and creativity. They have to do with what we make of our outer surroundings – how we create it, shape it, transform it and grow it.

A reading containing Cups

Cups represent the element water – they typically denote the summer months. Cups represent love, happiness, and emotional relationships. Cups are about displays of emotion and the expression of feelings. Cups indicate thinking with your heart rather than your head, and reflect your impulsive responses to situations. Cups are also linked to creativity, romanticism, fantasy and imagination. Predominantly cups in a reading suggest seeking solutions to what are primarily emotional conflicts, love matters and emotions.

The Tarot path facts and mystery

Written by Amber

For five centuries or more Tarot cards have been used in Europe as a means of divination (fortune-telling).

The Tarot pack contains 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana Cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards; these Minor Arcana cards are broken into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Each suit contains four suit cards: King, Queen, Knight and Page, and 10 cards numbered from Ace to Ten.

RW The rest of the pack the Major Arcana – contain symbolic images/pictures, each has a title and number – although in some packs the Fool is not numbered.

The doctrine behind these images has assumed many forms. The Tarot speaks many languages; its images/pictures are full of meanings to every student of the Tarot regardless of which path led them to study and learn this ancient mystery.

The Tarot path facts and mystery shows that the Tarot has foundations – links to the Qabalah and its ancient alphabet.

The Tarot Major Arcana shows the occult meaning of the 22 Hebrew letters as given in the Sepher Yetzirah.

The Tarot Minor Arcana cards represent the four worlds, or planes of existence which are given in the Qabalah. Each of these worlds has its own unique characteristics, and will represent a human quality/distinguishing feature; this is typified by one of the living creatures mentioned in the Ezekiel and Revelation. Each of these creatures represent one of the four cardinal signs of the Zodiac, the suits of the Tarot also represent this.

The Tarot Minor Arcana cards:

Wands: Atziluth, archetypal world; Spirit; Lion; Leo; Fire

Cups: Briah, creative world; Soul; Eagle; Scorpio; Water

Swords: Yetzirah, formative world; Astral body; Man; Aquarius; Air

Pentacles: Assiah, material world; Material body; Bull; Taurus; Earth.

The four court cards represent the constitution of mankind. The king is symbolic of spirit; the queen is symbolic of the soul; the knight is symbolic of the astral body and the page is symbolic of the physical body. There are four of each because each principle may manifest in each of the four worlds at the same time; this can be seen in any of us as different aspects of our personalities.
